345kV Y-50 transmission feeder between Davids Island and Pea Island (New Rochelle, NY)
Hallen Integrated Construction Services was the general contractor to handle the emergency repair and replacement of Con Edison’s 345kV Y-50 transmission feeder between Davids Island and Pea Island (New Rochelle, NY). The project’s first phase encompassed the removal of existing splice casings, radiographic documentation of splices, dielectric fluid evacuation, cable joint disassembly, and the extraction of faulted three-phase cables across approximately 2,500 feet between the manholes on Davids Island and Pea Island. New cable was installed, spliced to the existing infrastructure, and enclosed within replacement splice casings, which were welded and pressure-tested to ensure system integrity. Before high-potential (HiPot) testing and system recommissioning, the feeder was charged with nitrogen and dielectric fluid. The execution of this work required specialized equipment, precise logistical coordination, and stringent safety protocols to mitigate environmental and operational risks.
